USA Today Recommends Rapunzel Untangled

Rapunzel Untangled received some love from USA Today . . . well, today. Alongside my friend and fellow Cedar Fort author Rachel McClellan, reviewer Serena Chase had this to say:

Why you should read it: Placed in a world where the tale of Rapunzel has not yet existed (otherwise, wouldn't her name sort of give it away?), this modern re-telling is a fun but somewhat dark take on the classic, borrowing from page and screen versions as well as the mystical realms of modern technological romance.

Some serious "creepy" is going on in Rapunzel's house, an ever-expanding mansion which may bring to mind the famous Winchester Mystery House in California. When Fane fans the flame of Rapunzel's burgeoning curiosity, however, things go from creepy to romantic to life-or-death dangerous pretty fast.

Rapunzel has a pretty believable teen voice, given her upbringing. And Fane is certainly an easily loved hero. Fans of fairytale remixes won't be disappointed while untangling, as it were, this imaginative story.

RG: My mother calls it Gothel Manor, so maybe that’s different?

Playing Shoot Bubble Deluxe on my cell phone. Why guilty? Because I have a habit of doing it when I should be doing other things (like writing) and I become kind of obsessed with it. I spent months trying to pass level 63! (Which I finally did only 3 days before getting a new phone, now I have to start over.)

The story starts out light, and gets darker as it progresses. Kind of like Gothel, she seems to be pretty sane when the story starts but as it goes on she gets crazier. I do understand her extreme views, and I really enjoyed the twist of Vedmak, it was unexpected.
